00:00:00: Welcome back to a brand new episode of Artsy Fartsy Immigrants!

00:00:04: We have a lot of fun things to jump into today including but not limited too the US military base stand-up comedy shows that I just performed and The Adventure That Was Indeed.

00:00:17: So let's get into it.

00:00:36: Jumping right on in to the main topic Today i would Just like To Say Thank You to Aaron Crouch and to Kendall Borgen.

00:00:48: Aaron worked with my booking manager Fenya, uh...to set up this interesting stand-up comedy tour at the American military bases here in Germany And I'm very grateful for all of the arrangements setting up a hotel and food scheduling you know, a burden so to say for organizing other people and getting everything set up where it's functional and smooth.

00:01:16: However this is military!

00:01:18: So she didn't seem to have any hiccups with that or seemed flustered by anything... ...with that?

00:01:23: I'm happy for that.

00:01:24: i'm glad I didn't feel like I was bringing stress upon anybody but I am grateful.

00:01:30: And uh- It takes very specific type of personality to organize and run & manage all those things.

00:01:39: Erin has a personality that I'm a little bit jealous of, or maybe it's more the way she thinks because... She is this very type A person-I believe that right?

00:01:49: Type A where its very organized and on top like, clear and precise.

00:01:55: And okay we're gonna do this!

00:01:56: Now I've picked this up.

00:01:57: then I'm going to scoop you up.

00:01:58: meet me at the parking lot.

00:01:59: it's long of a drive.

00:02:00: now have my google maps arrived in place?

00:02:04: did bring your passports.

00:02:05: don't forget your passport.

00:02:06: ok he had his passport.

00:02:07: never gonna go on.

00:02:12: this past will only work for this gate.

00:02:13: you'll need anyone tomorrow but i would pick u up with this time.

00:02:16: notice just this thing where am like.

00:02:18: OK great its taking care off is out-of-my hands.

00:02:21: I will forget all of this and thankfully, i don't have to care about the fact that i would forget.

00:02:26: All Of This!

00:02:27: That's a very comforting feeling.

00:02:28: um...I Will just also say before we get into The Experience itself..that it was-i really four or five military shows uh in different on different bases.

00:02:40: so thank you To everybody who came and saw those shows.

00:04:58: It's a free show hosted by the Embassy of Germany in Budapest and I believe all the registrations are filled.

00:05:05: But i would keep checking-in for those who were still interested... ...I would check-in up to The Day Of The Show just incase because people do register early For things Like this.. ..i've done free shows for embassies And for consulates & Things like that That Are paid for By the state or whatever Because they're free.

00:05:59: I'm gonna do.

00:07:48: Inspired by his successful Instagram and TikTok videos the audience can expect a mix of laugh out loud moments...and perhaps even unexpected moments…of reflection or emotion!

00:08:00: Far less reflection and emotion, a lot more butt jokes.

00:08:08: Scoot!

00:08:10: Scoot over!

00:08:11: That doesn't even make any sense.

00:08:31: Okay, so I was just performing or just performed At some of The American Military Bases in Germany which...the entire experience is pretty wild for a lot Of different reasons.

00:08:46: i mean very cool Very It basically like the entire experience hit every single.

00:08:55: it Hit the gambit of human emotions if that makes sense Like there were times where I felt a little shocked Times.

00:09:04: I felt like a little weirded out and then other time's why it felt so happy, and surprised.

00:09:12: And You know i guess i was never really angry.

00:09:19: These damn military bases these warheads aren't big enough.

00:09:25: Oh Hexeth is here.

00:09:26: oh crap It Was.

00:09:28: um Well, let me just start from the start.

00:09:31: So Let Me Just Start From The Start.

00:09:34: The American Military Bases.

00:09:36: It's a Interesting.

00:09:39: That Whole Dynamic that whole World Is Something That is Very very far away for me in my head right or it was before I went there When i found out?

00:09:49: I Was Gonna Be Doing These Shows.

00:09:50: it Was Arranged Like I Said Between My Booking Agent Fenya Shoutout Fenya you're the best.

00:09:57: and Aaron Crouch who organizes English language.

00:10:02: She's American and she organizes all these uh, english-language... And I think even some german-langauge comedy shows!

00:10:09: She's been a stand up comic for a long time.

00:10:12: She works for the american military part-time work.

00:10:16: now i think she did it more when she was younger?

00:10:20: She's got military family.

00:10:21: It's all.

00:10:21: everyone is connected somehow to The American Military.

00:10:25: um surprise and When that was set I instinctively imagined every show to be kind of similar maybe, some of the consulate or embassy shows i've done before.

00:10:41: Um...I was trying to think if The Building in Munich that I did comedy app before it was this really fun show not the American uh..it wasn't Like the American Legion or like the Consulate.

00:10:56: But it was, you know... There's this gigantic building The beautiful big-building in Munich.

00:11:03: That is not too far from where the Oktoberfest took place And I did a show there that was really cool and had This.

00:11:11: You Know It Was My First My first special that i didn't put out on YouTube but I've shared clips of Um..I relied kind of heavily.

00:11:20: I think it was more of a crutch out the nervousness doing stand up.

00:11:24: But, um...I had sort-of like powerpoint presentation that iwasdoingwiththeshow and That Was A Perfect Venue to do that because It Had This Huge Screen And It Was This Big Stage And These Nice Wooden Fold Out Chairs And It Felt Like Okay People Can Give Like A Ted Talk Here You can Have Professors Giving A Presentation About Something You Could Have Political Commentators With you know, graphs or whatever sources on the screen.

00:11:51: Basically a stage with a screen and chairs.

00:11:54: And I kind of imagined it all these shows to be a bit like that either combination.

00:11:59: if Either-or A show Like That Or Why'd i say?

00:12:04: Either-Or Either A Show Like That I Expected OR Conference Room Style Which I played a lot Of Shows Like That.

00:12:14: Also As A Musician.

00:12:16: I remember this one time, i was hired to play sort of a company like a corporate company event and... ...I went to the basically at this enormous conference room where I was supposed to play.

00:12:29: And my opening act was A man giving a twenty five minute powerpoint presentation on a mountain that he hiked.

00:12:39: You can't you know Germans?

00:12:42: You just can't be doing all that unless you want to be mocked.

00:12:46: It's just too easy, You handed it on a silver platter.

00:12:52: Yeah so here is hour four.

00:12:54: This was the fourth hour where my fingers were bleeding a lot.

00:13:00: My shoes were starting to wear thin And here, very high in the Himalayas there's not lots of oxygen so it is really hard for breathing.

00:13:13: So I was much like... and saying oh my god you know we hikers and mountaineers, what do is?

00:13:24: We often have families.

00:13:26: Wives with many children's and extra wives so forth people who really care about our safety And leave them for four months of the year to go basically walk the fine line between existing and being a dead person That freezes on the mountains like on Everest that all of the sightseers can step over our bodies.

00:13:51: That's a true thing, by the way An enormous amount of dead frozen bodies on Everest.

00:13:55: people just step over different tangent Freaky crazy.

00:13:59: anyway don't go to Everest.

00:14:01: it's dumb Don't do it.

00:14:02: It's expensive and you'll die!

00:14:04: Don't Do it...it's done Think at The Sherpas.

00:14:06: Anyway I followed that guy in this bright fluorescent conference room And I remember that the stage Didn't have like a. for those who don't know what a monitor Like a speaker monitor is it's basically just them.

00:14:19: A little speaker on The stage that faces the musicians and faces anyone Who's on the stage usually.

00:14:26: so you can hear yourself?

00:14:28: You Can Hear your voice, you Know you can here your guitar or you can Here like am i in tune?

00:14:35: and You could hear your levels.

00:14:36: Basically you need That In order to Understand how you're sounding to the audience.

00:14:41: and they didn't have that all.

00:14:43: They had was a speaker in The very back of the conference room this huge hall.

00:14:49: That Was like half-a-second delayed because it was so far away.

00:14:54: So is like I would strum like ring, and if we'd I would hear it back Like there's like I want to tell you and it drove me crazy.

00:15:07: Um, I got very flustered.

00:15:09: that was a very unprofessional like at very...I get very overwhelmed.

00:15:12: That was before i found out that I have um adult ADHD And Could not control myself from how insanely overwhelmed and stressed?

00:15:23: So Would I handle it better today?

00:15:27: maybe not but At least I would understand why I'm so stressed.

00:15:32: Anyway, I expected it to be either like that first show or this.

00:15:36: It was not any of those things!

00:15:37: They were actually so different and i'll explain why.

00:15:42: So...I met up- I took the train To Kaisa's Laotan Which..I looked at- I was like Kaisaa That is king And then like- Or Kaisas Is kings?

00:15:54: And then laotan is purity This town called Kings Purity.

00:16:00: Uh-oh Kings purity in Europe.

00:16:04: that kind of makes me feel like I Was trying to think about what would be a very risky name for a town and like Alabama.

00:16:16: Anyway, not gonna go that route.

00:16:20: In Kaiserslautern it's the small sort of unsuspecting German Town.

00:16:24: It really does Feel any other German small town.

00:16:30: I mean, and that's not shade on Kaiserslautern it just like Kaiser is louder than... The fact that it is such an unsuspecting standard German city Is what makes being on the American military bases so shocking So jarring as in America especially in American living in Germany.

00:16:51: So I go there, I get picked up by Erin.

00:16:55: Very friendly American woman.

00:16:57: immediately all business like boom!

00:17:00: Immediately it was high handshake and we're going gonna to get in the car.

00:17:03: We are gonna do this.

00:17:04: you're gonna check on hotel were gonna pick-up this It's like okay Okay i'm just gonna follow what she says but im gonna try and keep up.

00:17:14: so yeah meet with Erin and then we turn, you know it turned everything around.

00:17:27: kind of cool down get dressed whatever.

00:17:30: Then picked up by Aaron straight to the first base security check.

00:17:38: so this is all like my first day.

00:17:41: I felt very under slept i felt groggy I didn't have a lot of time to detox and digest, readjust.

00:17:52: To being in the new place it's just...I'm learning more especially as they get older that i need not like full day but maybe few hours kind my body catching up with where my brain is.

00:18:10: so I was already falling asleep Like immediately I just could not keep my.

00:18:17: they were making fun of me and it And they had every right to but like literally couldn't hold a conversation, and that happened almost every time That was in the car.

00:18:26: I do love sleeping.

00:18:26: cars II really can help myself.

00:18:29: It's a problem okay?

00:18:31: Sometimes it almost scares Me how much I cannot Like How Much I Literally Cannot Control how Tired i am In A Car.

00:18:39: its Wild.

00:18:40: if You've Never Been If you've never been in The car with me The if you ever are it's like I was drugged.

00:18:49: So anyway pulling up to the first base.

00:18:51: I'm groggy, I'm funky.

00:18:52: I've not in a good headspace.

00:18:54: I'm not really unlike the jokie zone.

00:18:56: I don't necessarily feel so great about my...I Don't have a lot of confidence.

00:19:02: and that moment about my set You know?

00:19:12: I think we're gonna announce early next week, so keep your eyes peeled for your city when we announce it.

00:19:20: So you can get your tickets before it sells out.

00:19:22: because last year uh... We had some issues with that where Some people um weren't able to come see the shows Because It was sold-out.

00:19:30: and i want You guys To especially The dedicated artsy Fartsy listeners to be Able to Get Your Tickets First because well you're awesome!

00:19:42: Yeah, yeah we pull up to the place.

00:19:44: I'm groggy.

00:19:44: It's and it's also its dark cloudy And sprinkly rain in kind of humid light breeze.

00:19:50: It's just a recipe for naps.

00:19:53: Getting out of the car?

00:19:55: Its immediately Just an energy change.

00:19:57: right it's not.

00:19:59: it's like A airport security but Kind Of Like on crack.

00:20:03: Not In The sense That You Have To Take Off All Your Clothes Or Go There go Through your Bags or Anything like.

00:20:07: not at all.

00:20:08: But it is the feeling of like I am surrounded by people with loaded weapons.

00:20:38: Again, just I mean...I know it's- I know that like.

00:20:42: i'm not in trouble.

00:20:43: It's not the feeling where you go through TSA and hope that you didn't accidentally pack a gigantic katana sword!

00:20:50: Its' Just That Feeling of.

00:20:51: I Am Surrounded By Loaded Weapons And Im Usually Not And I'd Hope I Don'T Do Something Dumb Where They Get Suspicious Of Me Which then again makes me agh nervous.

00:21:01: But Then they Take A Photo.

00:21:02: Um..i feel a lot some information and we all do The Same Thing.

00:21:09: This is where I should have started the whole story first off because who cares about the other stuff?

00:21:14: this Is Where Things Get Crazy.

00:21:17: it is legitimately a full-blown American city.

00:21:26: Think About if you're from The States or You've Been to the states.

00:21:29: think About A town Or City.

00:21:33: Not and i don't mean like New York City Nothing Obviously not that Enormous, Think Small Midwestern or Southern City not tiny.

00:21:44: Not like a village, not like man.

00:21:46: no one lives out here But you know just enough.

00:21:50: I'm thinking something like maybe like Chattanooga Maybe Like Oxford or Tupelo Mississippi.

00:22:01: Yeah, I think that seems fair.

00:22:04: it is that Ten minutes ago i was Just in Germany.

00:22:11: ten minutes ago you know apotheke and You Know Every like.

00:22:20: I don't know why just yeah, I was like.

00:22:22: I'm gonna list German things but it's uh It's just Germany.

00:22:28: go through this security check your in America.

00:22:32: The roads are American.

00:22:35: the like to paint on the roads is just somehow different.

00:22:39: street lamps German Roads?

00:22:44: First off, but they famously don't have street lights.

00:22:46: It's very dark driving German roads at night.

00:22:51: They have streetlights Very American.

00:22:54: the infrastructure The there's highways.

00:22:59: in this American town There's a couple of you like two-lane highways.

00:23:03: You're driving under a bridge So you already had this feeling?

00:23:07: Of there's cars above you.

00:23:09: your on that little too lane highway.

00:23:11: here This is city.

00:23:14: You're.

00:23:14: you're pulling past bowling alleys car washes everything like.

00:23:21: it's not that there's German buildings That Americans inhabit.

00:23:26: I need to try and like emphasize this.

00:23:28: It's not German style door handles German-style infrastructure, you know methods windows bathroom stalls is America.

00:23:41: You know how in America all the bathroom stalls have that like one foot Gap from the tile up to the door for some reason.

00:23:51: And it has like that little half-inch gap between where the door locks and the lock Latch part thing.

00:23:57: For whatever reason.

00:23:59: Yeah, everything down to that was on the base you had like barbecue shacks That were built by what looked like?

00:24:09: You know local lumber.

00:24:11: It was like bills, hot wings and tater tots.

00:24:15: And the cars?

00:24:17: they're all lifted trucks.

00:24:18: They are big SUVs again Lifted forward dodge Chevy.

00:24:27: If it wasn't for license plates and a handful of street signage I would have really felt like i had teleported.

00:24:39: That's very jarring feeling.

00:24:41: It's a really strange feeling.

00:24:43: And I legitimately mean, like ten minutes ago... ...I was in very small German town or just an average German town.

00:24:50: Now i'm IN AMERICA.

00:24:53: Every detail is America.

00:24:54: Everything's shipped over from America and we end up going to this venue.

00:25:02: They plucked a pub out of Boston Or Chicago Or New Orleans and just plopped it down in this town.

00:25:14: There's high schools, there's high school, plural... In my mind I'm like- This is an entire world that a lot of people don't know as they're!

00:25:30: People have their own routines and their own town gossip And their own doctors You know?

00:25:37: Kinds of their own Walmarts.

00:25:40: They have their own like city park and they're on you know tracks.

00:25:44: Like for runners, there's the public pool And it is a City inside Germany that Is completely American.

00:25:54: I just don't mean.

00:25:55: maybe this sounds like yeah duh no big deal It's crazy to be here For the first time Especially in your thirties Being from The States Going into oh my god i'm In Corinth Mississippi Down To Hell The Roads Feel.

00:26:09: It's a crazy feeling.

00:26:11: So then we go to this venue and it really feels like it was plucked out of just New Orleans, is the bar carpeted?

00:26:21: popcorn ceilings that wood or drywall material for the structuring... The way the bar is built together.

00:26:30: there are air conditioning every car but every single building is, um... you know it's all American.

00:26:41: You go in there and its given to whatever order.

00:26:44: its in a styrofoam box plastic forks..you can get yourself like a monster energy drink or coke or beer.

00:26:52: And It's pizzas and chicken wings and tater wedges and tots and y'know tenders and cheeseburgers, bacon cheeseburgs which I'm not even-I am saying that because it so american but im not mocking yet I love going to America and getting that food when i go there.

00:27:11: But, just like at a bakery in Germany it was called out for maybe crossing an empty street with no walking sign you know?

00:27:28: Just very German things.

00:27:29: A cyclist clinging on the bike lane And now... Rogers, Rogers hot wing hut.

00:27:38: You know so spicy it'll.

00:27:40: you know.

00:27:42: So spicy your sofa is gonna have a. I have a but ring on it for months.

00:27:46: Oh spicy your toilets going to cry.

00:27:48: yeah It's just like It's such a crazy feeling and Yeah that the whole it's just.

00:27:56: I don't know if i kept saying To people this feels Like an episode of like The Twilight Zone?

00:28:03: Like I was half expecting Some sort of doppelganger version of me to walk out or my family just be there Or you know this turn out to be.

00:28:14: oh, this looks oddly similar To my high school auditorium and then I have to relive some embarrassing moment for eternity.

00:28:21: Oh no That's when they pooped my pants like it's.

00:28:26: It's just such an odd Feeling but i don't want uh?

00:28:30: I mean i've been saying its odd in strange and jarring a lot.

00:28:36: Everyone's super nice.

00:28:38: You know, it's I mean they're Americans.

00:28:40: you go in.

00:28:40: there's a big tall doorman literally the size of Shaquille O'Neal and Already.

00:28:46: he's riffing with me, you know like Aaron introduces me Like oh this is Jordan This Is Our Headliner Act.

00:28:52: And He Says He has no idea who I am.

00:28:55: Why would he?

00:28:56: And he's like, oh man people have been asking for you.

00:28:59: they've been waiting for all night.

00:29:00: we got every ticket sold out just amping me up.

00:29:04: It is old and he was joking around.

00:29:08: but that so American to be like.

00:29:10: Oh Man!

00:29:10: They've been calling for you People are clawing at the doors to get in see you.

00:29:16: You better do a good show.

00:29:18: And I'm like, oh my god.

00:29:19: Like hey i'm in America you know.

00:29:21: so he was super nice.

00:29:22: the owner was a nice guy um pretty intense looking owner.

00:29:26: shoulder pads brushed gelled like moosed hair.

00:29:30: back kind of salt and pepper.

00:29:32: You know when someone has a smile that's just like teeth.

00:29:35: He had-he had a smile.

00:29:36: That was any smoke cigarette.

00:29:38: So it was like CIGARETTEETH.

00:29:40: but uh friendly guy by the way cannot emphasize enough how grateful I was that my dad taught me or you know embedded in the importance of a firm handshake with eye contact.

00:30:00: My god did THAT come in handy!

00:30:05: Like every single interaction, women men like Every single interaction was a hey, how you doing man big fan.

00:30:14: and then just like Just of eye contact in the big handshake.

00:30:17: And I was like.

00:30:18: I am so glad In this moment that i'm not going to be The person who has bad handshake.

00:30:26: even got To correct about handshake on This trip.

00:30:29: there's one show where?

00:30:31: I went in for the grip and he moved his hand or I moved my Hand.

00:30:35: we kind of missed it And I got to correct it like oh hold on man.

00:30:38: Let me get that right.

00:30:39: Yeah, thank you or like, you know sorry about that is.

00:30:41: Oh no problem.

00:30:42: So like very handshake heavy Very very handshakey Place.

00:30:46: um.

00:30:47: and then the first show.

00:30:49: Um i can't believe.

00:30:50: i am over half an hour and i have not discussed The First Show yet?

00:30:53: I'm Sorry You Know when i don't podcast every week sometimes your boy does miss his.

00:30:57: uh he Does miss his beats here but you Don't listen.

00:31:00: do this show for tight.

00:31:02: Uh tight you know, manufactured crystal clear commentary.

00:31:06: You're listening to The Ramblin Man.

00:31:09: Lord I was born a rambling man trying to make a living in podcasting.

00:31:20: all right i'll stop.

00:31:21: um sorry.

00:31:23: so first show was bad!

00:31:26: First Show...I would say it was-it was a bad show And it built kind of a funny dynamic between me and Erin in Kendra, the two women that I was working with.

00:31:36: Because so... The way it works is like you know, Erin goes up she's the host She's introducing this show..I kept forgetting what they're-like.

00:31:45: the role Is?

00:31:47: Hold on!

00:31:48: The Role Of Kendra Like What?

00:31:50: The Title-she's the opener but there's like A Name For It Names Of Stand Up comedy Positions like what is it?

00:32:04: Is that does that what I'm looking for?

00:32:06: oh Feature, that's where I was looking forward.

00:32:09: That's when I wasn't for a feature.

00:32:11: Yeah So there's all these terms.

00:32:13: you know It's always every industry has their own terms.

00:32:15: and there's like the MC host There's the opener.

00:32:18: There's to feature.

00:32:19: That' s what Kendra was used as The middle act Usually longer set like twenty to thirty minutes.

00:32:26: then this headliner which with me So, doing a bad show built up funny dynamic with me and Erin in Kendra because Kendra was the feature act.

00:32:39: She lives in Amsterdam but she's American too kind of a sassy mid-forties woman Kind of like tough and brutish very dry sarcastic type And at first I couldn't quite tell if she liked me.

00:32:57: I got the feeling a little bit at first that because these shows did have people filling out the venues, except for one venue we didn't have great turnout.

00:33:07: but of other ones... Because people were showing up to see me they're just of a generation maybe Kendra more than Aaron But like just another generation or type of background lifestyle where Building an audience through social media just feels maybe a bit shallow or a bit like out of grasp, a bit too abstract to them.

00:33:29: And I understand that it actually... Like i'm-I didn't have any issue with maybe Kendra seeing me as you know.. A newer comic having this kind of audience Or people wanting to take pictures or something and her having been in the game a lot longer than me.

00:33:47: um, in the old-fashioned sort of method if you want to call it that just the standard building audience with like on the ground.

00:33:56: I don't know how to say that but... You know what i mean?

00:33:58: Um..I can actually understand That would be something maybe a little annoying or hard to digest.

00:34:06: Like.

00:34:07: we know What makes this guy so special.

00:34:10: Why does he suddenly have this audience and she's put all his work And shes'a good comic Really Good Um, but I don't want to say that i'm not trying To make it sound like anyone was mean to me.

00:34:21: No one Was ever mean?

00:34:23: I just felt at first That there was this little bit of like maybe misunderstanding Of our approaches to comedy And I think that's normal you'd have is like if I met certain musicians and they Just play a certain style.

00:34:36: It's just you can Have respect and you Can like each other But you might Not click on the methods.

00:34:40: so I Think that was kind of happening At First Just a tiny bit like justified almost.

00:34:48: Like yeah, you see it is kind of maybe not You know doing...like they were.

00:34:53: I think there was an assumption that like the-I probably am NOT A very good comedian and That It's all from The internet audience.

00:35:02: And Maybe you Know that it Was like a hype thing Which Is fair?

00:35:06: Its'a Fair Thing to Assume if you've you know.

00:35:08: She Didn't know me.

00:35:09: she didn't See my other.

00:35:10: you know My specials or anything so thats okay.

00:35:13: And the first show kind of validated that for them a little bit, you know.

00:35:15: She was very kind to give me some advice.

00:35:18: You know she said she was surprised when I had told her That I was going to do only new material and that's that was something that was very helpful To learn like right?

00:35:30: I don't Like.

00:35:32: this is not like for the tour, you Know.

00:35:34: i can work out my new material But I should incorporate older things sprinkle those in but good because I want to make the best show that i can and these people have never seen me live before.

00:35:47: So of course, I can use older material and just make it fresh again so... That was very helpful um but it was a rocky show man!

00:35:55: It was rocky you know?I am grateful for that.

00:35:59: audience and the people who stayed after too take photos and tell me their stories and everything that was really cool.. I remember like this first show ended Kind of went in this little backstage area and there was a stair like right after the store.

00:36:15: There's a staircase that goes up To this upstairs room where we had our stuff, and I just literally laid down on the stairs.

00:36:24: i Just layed Down On my back Like with My head Going Up The Stairs In My Feet On The Floor And I Just Had My Head In My Hands.

00:36:37: Then My Friend Came In.

00:36:41: I had a friend that was also there, and my friend- And then Kendra also.

00:36:46: They were coming back... ...and i was just going.

00:36:49: oh that was so bad!

00:36:50: That was so ba-I WAS JUST CRYING IT OUT LIKE.

00:36:52: THAT WAS SO BAD.

00:36:54: THAT WAS SOOOO BAD.

00:36:59: It probably wasn't as bad As I felt it was But you gotta bomb now & than.

00:37:05: but boy does this suck to bomb.

00:37:08: Bombing if you don't know Mean it's pretty I think is pretty intuitive, but if you don't know bombing.

00:37:14: It's just doing very badly Just like Just bombing Which is funny because doing very well people say like oh dude You killed you murdered and that's like murders in bombing.

00:37:26: hmm interesting comedy terms to use at the American military basis.

00:37:31: Oh Yeah, I bombed hard so i really think I did bad.

00:37:41: But Obviously enough of it was working where you know, I didn't have to consider quitting But that was where you Know.

00:37:51: Kendra had given me some good advice and I felt really Then I had like a really bad sort of light not chip on my shoulder but just this grudge with myself of like man Maybe this vibe.

00:38:05: I was getting from From them about like hype comedy And do you know?

00:38:12: The internet social media stuff.

00:38:14: Maybe maybe you know it started I had a lot of doubts was like, maybe i'm really and maybe this isn't that good.

00:38:20: And So when I took her advice about?

00:38:23: You know not just doing only new stuff but putting in things That will make the best show.

00:38:29: I Made a new set for the rest of the tour.

00:38:34: I uh Started instead started to show an ended the show completely differently.

00:38:42: This was the best idea.

00:38:44: This changed everything.

00:38:47: I started off with a story... Some of you will know, some might not know it It's from again that very first hour that i wrote With the PowerPoint photos That never released The whole thing And its'a story about A very embarrassing sauna experience and it does Very well like..it did on that first Recorded show And it was a really good idea to put this into, uh...into the set.

00:39:25: It starts off- The show in very easily accessible way You know?

00:39:32: It is embarrassing!

00:39:35: Its little self deprecating But its also thing that alot of people who move to Europe can especially to Germany Can relate too.

00:39:44: there's gonna be an experience probably where you were in a sauna and The fact that you have to be completely naked in there Sorry, got a stuffy nose.

00:40:00: the fact they've to be totally naked in their is very shocking And They can connect with it.

00:40:08: So this story is stories good.

00:40:10: I like it.

00:40:11: i like how It um How its written?

00:40:13: And I liked telling it.

00:40:14: so I moved That To the front and then I Have all all new material in the middle.

00:40:20: And then I shifted the ending into.

00:40:24: if you have seen my last comedy special, oh no it was two... Two specials ago!

00:40:29: The one where the audience is standing that's in the Strom and Munich.

00:40:34: That's special.

00:40:34: that IS on my YouTube.

00:40:36: There's a story at the end about Oktoberfest In this crazy lady who did something.

00:40:41: If you haven't seen it go watch it.

00:40:42: It's-it's a true story AND IT'S WILD.

00:40:47: And I like the little button at the end of that story.

00:40:50: The way it ends, just... It's a very good closer.

00:40:53: Very proud of it and the way its structured-the way is told.

00:40:56: so yeah!

00:40:58: So i start with strong story.. I end with a very strong story.

00:41:01: That way if anything kind gets clumpy or needs adjustment from new material I can make notes in my head going forward.

00:41:11: so im doing work on this but also leaving the audience with something very memorable.

00:41:18: They're kicking off like wow, it starts off strong and then people usually leave what they heard last.

00:41:25: so ending on a stronger story.

00:41:29: So from there everything shifted.

00:41:32: The next show was vibe wise already much better.

00:41:39: I felt A little bit of sympathy from Aaron and Kendra.

00:41:44: I felt very, very supported by my friend And i still was like okay this has to go better it.

00:41:53: It was a longer drive there?

00:41:56: Yeah yeah yeah...it Was a longer Drive There To the next base..I think that one was Smith Barracks.

00:42:03: Sorry guys if anyone's listening If thats the wrong One but It was this really cool bar with a stage Above a bowling alley.

00:42:14: So that was really cool and I already knew the vibe was better in that show.

00:42:19: like immediately, it came In.

00:42:21: The building is just cleaner?

00:42:23: It felt fresher or college Big college cafeteria room.

00:42:31: That was and I mean that in a good way like it just felt very open Felt like a lot of young people.

00:42:36: It felt very sociable, and clean.

00:42:39: And what also benefited?

00:42:41: Was like immediately being recognized by A Lot of the The People there they enlisted.

00:42:46: who would stop me before i even had dinner Like stopping me for you know taking a photo or telling Me that They love my videos and that helped boost My expectations For that show.

00:42:58: And I had made the new set.

00:43:00: So when it was my turn, i went up and in the words of the comedians out there... I murdered!

00:43:08: Uh-I did really well?

00:43:11: I was so proud, I was SO happy, I were so relieved.

00:43:15: God that feels good.

00:43:18: My anxiety disappears.

00:43:21: There's moments where like sitting in silence of a line makes it funnier, but I can't do that if i'm anxious or nervous.

00:43:28: Or If It's not doing well.

00:43:31: my body just like forces me to move on.

00:43:33: and this was one of those shows where I could really hit a line have A face with it?

00:43:39: And Just sit in it which is a good um..I think That's...that's the Seinfeld note.

00:43:45: Like if you're In a moment in a story and it lands stay in it until like give it some room to breathe before you move on.

00:43:55: So that was really a great show and people came up for so long afterwards, taking photos.

00:44:02: there's this really drunk woman who is.

00:44:04: they were their husband?

00:44:04: And she tapped my shoulder.

00:44:09: and the first thing she says... She taps my arm.

00:44:12: I turn around.

00:44:13: she goes listen!

00:44:16: She was so drunk, and I just love that she didn't say hello or hi Or i don' want to disturb you but it's like tap my shoulder.

00:44:21: I turn listen I've been a fan for really long time like forever as she-she is almost Like... She Was So Drunk That She Gave Off This Vibe As If I Had Disturbed Her.

00:44:35: She'S Like Listen Look Okay Fine okay yeah You Can Have A Photo But She Was so Nice.

00:44:42: The Words Were nice but the her face was so funny But everyone was so kind.

00:44:48: One guy even said, hey man I was looking you up and found that you make music And thats top notch!

00:44:52: And i was like thank you sir When I come home with me.

00:45:00: That was a very good show.

00:45:01: Third Show Was Also A Decent Drive Away.

00:45:05: The first show is almost a ninety minute drive because of traffic There and then ninety minutes back.

00:45:10: third show more like forty five minute drive or forty minute drive not as bad But a very strange venue, I'll say.

00:45:22: Sorry!

00:45:24: The third venue just didn't seem prepared.

00:45:27: it was like dark room so brown paint and sort of yellowed bulbs.

00:45:34: And then the light that was above bar where he guy working alone Was these weird cheap bright hyper white fluorescent lights.

00:45:46: Um, so all the whole room felt kind of stale and it had this industrial warehouse fan in the corner just Just blasting everybody.

00:45:58: The entire time um And I felt that the microphone was a bit too loud But it was kind of i don't know no one else said that they felt That way.

00:46:09: like I asked audience members?

00:46:10: I asked the people I was with and It just sounded loud to loud to me.

00:46:17: but Think that show went well.

00:46:20: still had a lot of nice people coming up and Taking photos in being very sweet.

00:46:26: But personally I felt.

00:46:28: I was way too nervous for way to long Even at some point.

00:46:33: oh, I didn't tell you By the way got so twisted up with anxiety and stress on the show The first one that I was bombing That I actively lost my place.

00:46:46: kill me Lost my place.

00:46:51: Had to announce it To the audience had to say oh Sorry guys Give me a second.

00:47:00: I have my piece of paper out there, which looks so cool.

00:47:04: That was like i'm sorry II Because jokes were just doing SO Poorly So poorly that I was like shaking from nerves.

00:47:18: My mouth was so dry, lost.

00:47:20: my place had to announce it.

00:47:21: sorry guys this is all new stuff.

00:47:24: bear with me.

00:47:24: I'm looking for my spot.

00:47:27: i hear in the very back of that bar some dudes booing and then I said well give me a break guys what do you want me to do?

00:47:37: pretend?

00:47:38: I am not doing new material.

00:47:39: just stand up here tell bad jokes for five minutes something like that Like What Do You Want Me To Do?

00:47:44: Just Pretend be honest about it, like its new material and I'm lost.

00:47:49: And i got very defensive.

00:47:52: That was murder saying oh crap give me a second.

00:47:55: im looking for my stuff.

00:47:56: this is all new material!

00:47:57: Then people in the back being like wo boo!

00:48:02: God talk just about nightmare.

00:48:04: also...I was told to maybe not talk certain topics on stage so that first show was really in head when a joke might touch anything edgy, even remotely.

00:48:20: I was editing it out of my head in the moment which tripped me up because Am lost and bear with me.

00:48:39: And then what do you want?

00:48:40: Me to do just like lie about it until bad jokes for five more minutes, and Then the room clapped but it felt Like how your mom would clap if You got back up after scraping Your knee.

00:48:49: Very weird feeling anyway.

00:48:50: third show I was so nervous even though The Room is a much better room of people.

00:48:57: But it was just the arrangement, right?

00:48:59: There wasn't a stage and there's this dirty brown bar on my feet.

00:49:04: I was like two feet away from someone sitting in a chair so its almost giving speech at family Christmas around the tree.

00:49:12: It felt very crammed too close for me And...I also lost my place but handled much better Handled it much better, you know just was like slowly looking at my sheet But continued a calm pace and I'm working out some new material here for my tour For next spring.

00:49:38: And then i really wanted to talk A bit about dot-dot-dot.

00:49:43: So...I was happier that I handled that.

00:49:45: That show is fine Not my favorite but definitely not the worst.

00:49:49: Then thankfully It ended On the fourth and final best show, it was at this like big community center maybe ten minutes from The Hotel.

00:49:58: And that room is so full I think they thought maybe a hundred twenty people were gonna come or Maybe there's that many chairs?

00:50:04: I think in the end It was like two sixty to fifty Very full-room Like fifty-fifty Americans and Germans.

00:50:12: perfect for perfect balance For my stuff.

00:50:15: i got too you know riff on I get to do the sauna story and the Oktoberfest Story, all of new material riffs on a lot back-and-forths between German stuff & American stuff.

00:50:25: Those differences... I got just have fun with it!

00:50:31: The audience was very receptive.

00:50:33: Very warm from start.. I gotta stay calm.... I gotta enjoy the storytelling which is my favorite part when i can enjoy what im saying because Im comfortable And I felt like well-dressed and i felt that they were really loving it.

00:50:48: It's just the greatest feeling in the world!

00:50:52: After that show, a lot of people came up handshakes and photos... ...and again if any of you guys are there listening.... ...you had fun.

00:51:02: thank you so much for coming up.. ..I'm so thankful that you enjoyed this show.

00:51:07: Like us, like just being in America but in Germany felt jarring and weird for me.

00:51:15: It doesn't mean that I'm throwing any shade on any of the lovely people That i met there who enjoyed this shows and came up to talk to Me.

00:51:21: um There weren't Any like uh interactions with any People?

00:51:28: That stuck out To me Uh In a negative way.

00:51:30: so I think that's also interesting too in The environment.

00:51:33: I was So in my head about how strange it feels to not just be like, I expected a military base in the sense of well right there is you know... The active duty soldiers in camouflage doing gun marches on some grassy field and here's like a jet.

00:51:52: And stuff Like.

00:51:53: i expected-I don't know if few good men.

00:51:55: or you know the open-like FBI training camp Or at the beginning of Silence Of The Lambs but It just was jarring that it was like, oh welcome to Corinth Mississippi.

00:52:07: There's our target.

00:52:08: We have Taco Bell.

00:52:09: I got to go to Taco Bell.

00:52:11: That one is pretty awesome.

00:52:13: You know i've gotta go to Rammstein Airbase But still even there its all these bases.

00:52:19: that feels like Its a crazy town!

00:52:22: Its just huge but nothing on.

00:52:27: Just because thats jarring I want make it super clear that I had lovely time with the people And particularly that second show and the fourth show, it just gives me all of those fuel I need as an entertainer.

00:52:41: You know?

00:52:42: Like...I can get good views on a video!

00:52:45: Be happy about this for maybe one day or two.

00:52:48: But the internet moves quickly.

00:52:50: It's very unpersonal & impersonal.

00:52:54: They are numbers and they sometimes feel like its fleeting.

00:53:02: But performing on that stage in whatever context if something's going well, and I can enjoy doing it.

00:53:08: I feel so special And grateful and lucky and privileged and It's just the most wonderful Feeling and getting to look out in the audience and see people you know You know clutching the arm of their partner laughing and wiping tears away and connecting clapping when i make a point That they agree with It's just everything to me.

00:53:32: So I do want to say thank you to that and again, uh Thank You to Aaron.

00:53:38: They like Erin set up everything took care of everything.

00:53:42: She's a good comic.

00:53:44: she emceed every show.

00:53:46: she Um, you know i could tell that like especially after things started To get better for me as the headliner, you Know it wasn't like.

00:53:54: And no i would have hated if i'd been The headliner for shows That she organized and had done bad Every show.

00:54:00: I would have felt guilty because then that would probably have thrown a bit of bad reputation on her as the person booking it, right?

00:54:08: But i'm so glad that The First Show was the only bad show and from then on like...the whole mood in Everything Was Just Better.

00:54:14: Like everything....I felt like Aaron and Kendra opened up more with me That we became a little more these cool friends-in-comedy.

00:54:26: They also seemed really excited about the next shows.

00:54:30: Like, by-the final show Really felt like we became a team and The energy in there in the whole venue was excited And positive and professional and polite.

00:54:43: One guy at the end of the last show asked me if I ever would consider doing A comedy workshop which is such an honor that i Would be asked to that.

00:54:53: That Was very kind!

00:54:54: I have not considered.

00:54:56: If someone's doing a comedy workshop and they want me to speak about something I think that would be fun.

00:55:00: I mean, i have opinions but They are just opinions.

00:55:05: And yeah like That was just sweet.

00:55:08: you know the energy is really cool.

00:55:09: Um I Would say there were A couple of people Like...I'm very bad Fenya my booking agent can vouch for this too But Im Very Bad at telling people that they've taken up too much of my time after a show.

00:55:30: Doing the set is exhausting and takes a lot out of me mentally, like really knowing where you are at all times in the show... And performing it as draining!

00:55:42: But I also don't want to not talk to the people because i'm so grateful for them but i'm very bad about saying okay this has been enough time now.

00:55:53: So Fenya helps me with that when I'm on tour, but there were a couple of people That took up so much time and i couldn't-I just couldn't get myself to To say Like stop it now.

00:56:06: Stop it!

00:56:06: There was the person who like Very kindly... In case they listened this.. I don't want give any details away about what They Particularly did Because The interactions With them Were unique enough that they would know.

00:56:23: But yeah, there were a couple of people where I was like this is so nice.

00:56:39: But I think that's is this one.

00:56:55: I think there's all for today.

00:56:56: guys, i'm really sore from the gym So I got back into that.
